EU money for business
Nearly 90 million euro were allocated for preservation of cultural monuments and natural attractions under the programme
Bulgaria would use the funds allocated under the Ispa pre-accession programme 'up to the last euro', Environment and Water Affairs Minister Djevdet Chakurov said at the national conference Money for Tourism, organised by the National Tourism Board (NTB).
The ministry could assist sustainable tourism development through the funds allocated under the European Union's operational programme Environment, he said, as quoted by Focus news agency. Its main goal was the construction of waste water treatment stations along the Black Sea coast, Chakurov said. It was a direct aid for tourism sector, he said. The construction depended mainly on the big municipalities, but it was the smaller ones, which were the most active for the construction.
'We received 119 projects from 90 municipalities and the financial framework in the water sector starts at more than 500 million euro,' Chakurov said.
Tourism is not the focus of the EU, which is why its development depended exclusively on projects under the other operational programmes, Bilyana Raeva, member of the European Parliament (MEP), said at the conference.
Operational programme Regional Development provided the most possibilities for tourism sector development, Raeva said, as quoted by Focus news agency. Nearly 90 million euro were allocated for preservation of cultural monuments and natural attractions under the programme, she said.
Tourism experts could gain further qualification under the operative programme Administrative capacity, according to the MEP.
The NTB was preparing a list of companies that were trying to abuse investment projects in Bulgaria. Anyone who has information on such companies, 'could turn to NTB, where we, with the help of the public opinion, would smash these pretenses,' NTB head Krassimir Gergov said.
The board was calling on the environmentalists, who protested against investment projects, to present where they were receiving data from, Gergov said.
